Steve Gold Music: News

A Magnificent End of the Year! - December 4, 2009

Singing Spirit I Am at Yoga Glo. Thank you Loren Roche for this photo!Dear Friends,

What an extraordinary year it has been! Yes, it’s been one year already since we left our home in the Emerald City. Although we still miss our community in Seattle, we are grateful to have cultivated new friendships throughout the many beautiful places we’ve visited. Destinations were many, and it’s fun to muse over all our trips, plane rides, and multiple events at which we sang. We traveled to Bali (were we filmed a live video of So Much Magnificence) for a month and a half, drove the West coast in its near entirety three times, headed East to Montreal and New York City, West to Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona, spent long weekends in the Bay Area and Santa Monica, and finally landed in our new coastal home in the San Diego area. Overall we sang in more than 20 cities, for more than 3000 people, during more than 100 events! Wow! We want to thank all of our ever so kind and generous friends, our very own constellation of *Lucky Stars*, who have hosted us in their homes.

Unofficially, that was our “So Much Magnificence” Tour. And officially, we are closing the tour with a special promo – warning….unblushing display of promotion here! - We want every one to hear the sound of our musical waves. This season, please consider gifting your friends and family a copy of our CD. If you order more than one album this month through CD Baby, you’ll get a HUGE 30% off. It’s like getting your gifts at a wholesale price. Thank you for supporting us in spreading Magnificence!

Now officially, we are announcing our 2010 Let Your Heart Be Known Tour! We are working out dates with studios in the Northwest, the East Coast, the Bay Area, and Europe. As soon as dates are confirmed, they are added to our online Show Schedule. Let us know if you are a yoga teacher or studio owner, and if you would be interested in hosting and promoting us in your area.

So you know that we have a great two-song EP called Let Your Heart Be Known, after which our 2010 Tour is named. But you may not know that we are working on many more songs for a NEW ALBUM! We don’t have the title of the new album quite yet, but we are ecstatic because it is a collaboration with producer extraordinaire Ben Leinbach (Grammy nominated production for Jai Uttal, and Deva Premal and Miten). One of the songs that he is already producing for us puts to music a duo of mantras from India:

Om shrim shriyei namaha
Sat patim dehi parameshwara

The men sing out “Salutations to the divine creative energy. Please bring more feminine energy into my life,” and women respond in harmony “Please give me a man of truth who embodies the perfect masculine qualities.” We trust that you’ll know to adapt them to your personal gender preferences. Deva Premal who taught us the mantras, warned us jokingly that there is no remedy! This chant is dear to both our hearts. We met while we were singing it! In fact (and thank you, Ben) the first mix of the song was delivered to us on the anniversary date of our first acquaintance, six years ago! Now, isn’t that Divine timing!?

We want to continue communicating all these great updates to you, and want to keep it relevant to where you live. So, please add wave@somuchmagnificence.com to your address book, as this is the new email address from which you will be receiving our updates. You can change your information or unsubscribe at any time by using the link at the bottom of the email.

We want to thank all of you for being part of our supportive and creative community.

May your Holiday Season be filled with Joy and Peace,

Anne-Émilie and Steve

So Much Magnificence in the Fall - November 2, 2009

Steve & Anne-Émilie at the Radiance FestivalAt last! We’ve landed in our Solana beach shack near San Diego after 10 months on the road! This time of year, the ocean water temperature is an acceptable 63 degrees, and when I’m not working you can find me in the water. The surfing sessions were brief though, and home making was cut short… we barely had enough time to unpack our worldly goods before we left for 12 days of performance and recording. If you’ve been following us on Facebook lately, then you know that we have been riding wave after wave of heart opening connection through music and yoga.

Holy wow!!! The month of October felt like it was a peak time for Anne-Émilie and I. And we know in our hearts that this is only the beginning! Here are some of the highlights of the past month that I’d love to share with you...

Did you know that "So Much Magnificence" was mentioned in the October issue of the Yoga Journal?! Thanks to Lisa Black who included our anthem in her playlist! Plus...our music is now also featured on the newly released DVD, Yoga for the Seasons – Fall Vinyasa. A beautiful offering of Hatha Yoga sequences and Ayurveda taught by Melina Meza.

Early October, we performed two concerts in San Diego. The first was at Sujantra McKeever's beautiful studio, Pilgrimage Yoga. Sujantra is a great host and kept the beat for us too on the tablas! Our friend Harry Ammonds took some cool pictures that you can see here. The following concert was at a sweet spot in La Jolla called Embody Yoga. Directors Rachel and Diana packed the place with so many friends and fans for a night to remember! Again, thanks to Harry, we have some fabulous photos of the evening. By the way, you can sign up for our Our Show Schedule RSS feed and that way, stay up to date on our upcoming performences.

We joined Suzanne Sterling for an amazing kirtan at the Radiance Festival. This two-day workshop and concert was hosted by our friend Heather Keely from Bodacious Living Yoga at a beautiful home that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. The spacious yard was transformed into an outdoor amphitheater under the stars and enhanced by a laser show. We chanted our hearts open while brightly lit hula hoops revolved in a dance of spinning lights. See some photos of this amazing event here.

Steve & Anne-Émilie with Suzanne Sterling, Josh Brill, and RebeccaRadiance Festival with Suzanne Sterling, Josh Brill on guitar, Rebecca Kleinmann playing flute, and Matthew Hufschmidt on drums

Shortly after, we left for the Bay Area where we opened the 11th anniversary party at Being Yoga with a beautiful community chanting circle. We continued our tour of the Bay and sang for our friends at Bernal Yoga with Debbie Steingesser, The Yoga Garden with Janice Gates and at 7th Heaven with Charu Rachlis. Super sweet vibes in these classes!

Our next stop was at the recording studio of producer Ben Leinbach in Marin. We recorded vocal tracks for a new and soon to be released album. One can sing this mantra to attract their soul mate... Sounds like a joke, but the truth is that Anne-Émilie and I met within minutes of chanting it at our friend Deva Premal’s workshop!!! See Anne-Émilie warming up, and hear a clip of the new song on YouTube. After a productive day in the studio we joined Ben for Donna De Lory’s groovin’ concert in Berkeley. Donna and her band lay down tight dance riffs, and we really enjoyed her freedom drenched angelic voice!

Steve Gold, Ben Leinbach, Anne-Emilie GoldAfter our recording session, in the garden with Ben Leinbach, Marin County, CA

Finally, we closed the month in Los Angeles: where our angels are always singing. Shiva Rea hosted a concert for us like nothing we’ve ever done before, and nothing like Exhale Center for Sacred Movement had hosted before. She called it Soul Rising: Tantric Blues Therapy for Changin’ Times. With a smokin’ band of Blues Brothers (Niko Veliskakis, Matt Pszonak, Momo Loudiyi and Philippo Franchini) we led the attendants into a deep journey from the roots of their souls to the radiance of their hearts and spirits. Enjoy this video of the evening on which I am singing "How Long," the opening song for the night:

See more videos on our YouTube Channel!

Shiva than invited us to her Monday evening public class. If you’ve ever been to Shiva’s classes at Exhale in Venice then you know what a force of nature she is!!! She had the class rocking to U2 before we played "Spirit I Am" live and then finished the class with our remix of "Let Your Heart Be Known" ~ so wonderful ~ we love Shiva!!!

Our dear friend and teacher Saul David Raye featured us in his Sunday morning yoga class at Exhale. ~ With Matt and Momo supporting our voices we played several songs from our album, So Much Magnificence. It is so powerful to have over a hundred yogis singing our songs with us during their yoga practice. The vibrations in the room must radiate the joy out into the streets!

The abundance of community, connection, sharing the love and fellowship of mutual adoration and admiration is endless… such are the blessings of living in the flow!!! We thank you for reading, and for your continuous support.

All Blessings All Ways to you...See you in the waves~~~~

So Much Magnificence in September - September 18, 2009

Bhakti Fest 2009 - Joshua Tree CASo much has been happening on our path of music for yoga and kirtan! We are still based out of San Diego for now and we travel a lot to share our music and sing everywhere we can! In the last few months, we have continued our journey which has led us to sing for our yoga teacher Shiva Rea and her hundreds of students on multiple amazing occasions: in Venice Beach, CA, for her Foundational Teacher Training, at the Esalen Institute for a magical weekend retreat, and as Shiva's special guests for Bhakti Fest in Joshua Tree! We will also be joining Shiva at the Yoga Journal Conference in Estes Park, CO, September 24th and 25th. What's more, we brought our music to Montreal and New York City where yogis warmly welcomed us!

"So Much Magnificence" is mentioned in the October issue of the Yoga Journal!! Have a look online! We are thrilled and can thank our dear friend and great supporter Lisa Black for this wonderful press!

So, we are back in the Seattle area for a few days (very few!) and this weekend September 18-20th is GLOBAL MALA at Shakti Vinyasa Yoga East in Bellevue; at Three Trees Yoga and Healing Arts Center in Federal Way; and at Yoga Soleil in Puyallup. You are invited to rise in solidarity, practice yoga and chant as thousands of other yogis around the globe do too. PLEASE! come and practice with your friends and favorite teachers. Lunch with David Gates - July 27, 2009

David Gates & SteveLast week we were fortunate to have lunch with singer and songwriter David Gates from the 1970's band Bread.

David Gates is a legend: he created soft California rock, wrote and produced 8 albums, 7 of them were Gold Records. He worked with Elvis, Merle Haggard, Brian Wilson, and Phil Spector to name only a few. David Gates was Steve’s hero when he was 10! Steve now says he wanted to be David Gates, and aspired to sing as well as him. Emotional falsetto and all!!

Long before Steve was ever in a band, he performed in musical theater. To pass the singing auditions, he always sang “If” by Bread. As for the dance auditions…well, he’d prefer not to digress from lunch with David Gates to tell you about his dance moves. Let’s just say that he excelled at singing “If!!!” At the time, David Gates was Steve’s role model. How many times must Steve have broadcasted his desire to meet David? Hundreds!?

The Universe’s answer to this wish? A sunny California afternoon at a golf club, a zesty Caesar salad, a warm quesadilla, and clinking glasses of lemonade...We talked about life, cattle ranching, the music business, singing and touring. David graciously shared a few tricks of the trade for songwriters and guitar players, and offered to listen to our music. Absolutely Wonderful!

For us, meeting David is testimony to the power of manifestation. Sometimes one just needs to remember that the Universe is on it’s own timeline. “Tout vient à point à qui sait attendre" would say Clément Marot who meant, “Good things come to those who know to wait.”

And so it is.

Let Your Heart Be Known - July 15, 2009

Let Your Heart Be KnownLiving in the flow of our heart path has brought us our latest music release, the new EP Let Your Heart Be Known. It’s available online only through CD Baby (coming soon on iTunes, Amazon, and other distribution sites). The EP includes two songs: the remix of Let Your Heart Be Known, the original version of which is on our previous album So Much Magnificence, and our rendition of the mantra Purna. This is a timely release as Let Your Heart Be Known Remix is part of the soundtrack for Shiva Rea’s latest online video “Pranafication.” Here is your chance to view it if you haven’t already! We hope that these songs inspire you to live your life with authenticity, and that like us, you may follow your own passion, and path of the heart.

In the Studio - June 25, 2009

David in the StudioWhile in Seattle this week, we've been visiting our new friend Ben at FakeBaby Studios. Ben is 17 and extra talented. He dropped out of high school to do what he loves, and he is now helping us (and many others) recording music. So, we spent the last 3 days with him working on a few pieces for a DVD soundtrack, and the promise of a new album. With David Nolet on bass and guitar, Steve on vocals and guitar, and A-E on harmony vox, we are giving life to a couple of Steve's new compositions. They are silvery tunes colored by bossa nova rhythms and rich jazz chords. This is our second session with Ben as we were in his studio last month recording a fresh version of Midnight Rider, one of Steve's favorite old time blues. We've included a video of the Midnight Rider recording session for those of you who have not seen it yet.

So Much Magnificence in June - June 17, 2009

Satsang at Yoga Soleil in Puyallup, WADear friends and singers,

Everyday, the world we live in asks us to be creative, patient, and overcome obstacles. We mention this because we are living our dream, and it can sometimes be overwhelming! So, what we do when we feel overwhelmed, is simply sing. It's not a remedy for everything, but it opens the heart. It's a way to remember our essence. We love to sing! It's our affirmation of how we love to feel. People we know, love to sing with us. We count you all among our blessings, and hope you will come sing with us soon to remember how WONDERFUL it feels!

So Much Magnificence Update - Since we last sent you an email, we have traveled the West Coast from Seattle to San Diego. Everywhere we have met wonderful people and connected with the yoga community. Thank you Stephanie for having us at Flow Yoga in Hood River!  We also stopped in Ashland OR, where we played with wonderfully talented musicians, Gary, Ros, Michal and Cecily.  We also spent time in the Bay Area with amazing teachers Rebbekah Ladyne, Charu at the Yoga Tree in San Francisco and Toi Lynn at Being Yoga in Burlingame. Thank you so much to all of you for hosting us!

New Music Video and two-song EP Release! - We are excited to share with you Shiva Rea's new video trailer on which she uses our new remix of "Let Your Heart Be Known." This popular remix and a new song "Purna" will soon be available for purchase through CDBaby and other online retailers such as iTunes! Please be patient as the process of publishing the songs will take a few more weeks.

Watch Steve and David recording live in the studio! - Lately, we have been spending quite a bit of time in the studio recording some of Steve's favorite blues and early American spirituals. We have captured some of it on video for you! We are also working on some more original songs and chants that will be included in the soundtrack for Eoin Finn's upcoming yoga DVD. So stay tuned!

Live in Seattle this week and the next - We are back in the Seattle area for 10 days and we have many wonderful musical events that we would like to invite you, your family and friends to! Look for events at 8 Limbs Capitol Hill, Lululemon Athletica in the U-Village, Hot Yoga of Issaquah, and Laughing Buddha in Mill Creek. For all the details you need, please visit the websites listed below or go directly to our good old MySpace site.

You may also want to join us with Gina Salá on June 27th at Cal Anderson Park for Equalityoga. This outdoor event will be the first of its kind in Seattle, creating awareness and raising funds for the equality movement. Be one of the  yogis and yoginis to experience live music with flow yoga and the energy of a community making positive social change! You may register online.

Live in San Diego this month - We are performing on June 28th at Bodacious Living Yoga in Carlsbad with super talented drummer Paulo Mattioli.

So much magnificence to share! So much magnificence to be grateful for! Thank you for supporting our music.
