"Singer-songwriter Steve Gold's new album, 'Let Your Heart Be Known', is a soulful addition to the ever expanding genre of yoga music. His spiritually inspired English lyrics—blended with Vedic mantra, acoustic guitar melodies, and West African-influenced rhythms—carry healing vibrations. And his folksy, bluesy voice is sweetened with the honeyed backup vocals of his wife, Anne-Émilie Gold (...) Hello Anne-Emilie,
My mission, or dharma, as a singer/songwriter is simple and grand all at once. I discovered an unexpected gift in my music career twelve years ago. I was asked to write down my life purpose while attending a men’s group. I spent thirty minutes putting into words ideas I had for my life. The group leader approached me and glanced down at my sheet of paper that was full with ink. Without a moment of hesitation he asked, “Is that the truth?” And he walked away. I immediately knew I was not entirely honest with myself. As soon as I looked at what I had written not one sentence resonated with my heart. I tore the paper into pieces, and wrote these words: “My mission is to build community through group singing.” When I finished writing I felt a surge of inspiration move through me that I experienced as a deep sigh of relief.
Less than a week later I was offered to sing in a special Martin Luther King Day Yoga class. Since then I’ve been fortunate to sing for countless yoga communities around the planet. Through these associations I have been introduced to opportunities to make a difference with my music. Currently I’m very excited because I’ll be singing for karmaNICA, a non-profit foundation established to educate and empower children in Nicaragua. You can join me in supporting them by attending “we R all 1” the benefit concert on 11.11.11 at Fred Segal Salon in Santa Monica, CA. I am happy to tell you that 100% of the proceeds from the evening will go to the organization karmaNICA. Collected funds will help education and wellness in the Costa Sur community, while assisting youth in establishing personal and career aspirations.
Singing is simple. Grand is the work that gets done when community rallies together to support those in need.
With love and gratitude, |

"Retreat, Only in Order to Advance!" - The Maestro - October 11, 2011
|
ALKI BEACH, Winter 2003. In front of me there is a wide horizontal single pane window, it opens to the dark metallic skies above the Olympic mountain range. It’s a cold slate grey winter day in Seattle, but it’s always warm in this 1920’s beach bungalow. I love visiting here once a week for my voice lesson. Standing beside me is a black Steinway grand piano who’s worn white ivory knows many, many, scales. Surrounding me is a cast of esteemed singers and actors; Bob Hope, Judy Garland, Bing Crosby, to name a few, their signed portraits paying respects to their teacher, and mine.
Seated next to me on the squeaky piano bench is the Maestro. His long white hair is tied back in a loose ponytail. A yellow #2 pencil with a tip as sharp as a birds beak is nestled behind his right ear. We just finished a lesson, and are discussing our next appointment. I tell him that I’ll be leaving on vacation for a week. He gazes at me with penetrating eyes. I ask him, if he ever takes a vacation. In his sonorous baritone voice he replies as if he’s delivering a lyric to the back row of Carnegie Hall:“Vacate, from what? Why would I vacate from what I love?” As dedicated as I know him to be, it still shocks me to learn that my 85 year-old Maestro had never taken a vacation. Feeling compelled, I explain that I am actually leaving on retreat, precisely, a yoga retreat. Without a moment of hesitation the Maestro replies: “Retreat, only in order to advance!”
With love and gratitude, |

The Promise of Spring: New Music to Listen to! - April 18, 2011
|
Dear Friends,
This is Earth month. Nature knows the way. In spite of the huge global challenges we are experiencing I hope you are wonderfully inspired, and feeling the promise of Spring! We certainly are!
There is a lot of new life sprouting around us. We are expecting our first baby boy at any moment! Truly WONDERFUL!!!
Also, after a full year of production we are almost ready to birth our second full length CD entitled, Let Your Heart Be Known. This album has 10 new songs including a beautiful acoustic version of "Let Your Heart Be known." The music production for the CD is totally finished. As a matter of fact we received the master recording last night and we have posted two tracks here for you to enjoy. By visiting the link you will also have the opportunity to pre-purchase the CD for just $20! We will send you a signed copy before the official 7.1.11 release date.
One of the tracks from the new CD is already making its way out into the world. “Stoned On Shiva” is featured in the soundtrack of a major motion picture entitled, Urban Roots! This film highlights urban gardens in Detroit. Sponsored by Whole Foods Market, it’s currently screening in 70 cities nationwide. I’m very proud to be connected with Urban Roots because designing urban gardens has been a large part of my life for the past 15 years. You can see my other life's work at the bottom of this newsletter.
When you listen to “Stoned On Shiva,” you'll hear how heavily influenced by the Mississippi Blues it is. This is no surprise especially when you read about my early years working with legendary impresario Malcom McLaren (manager of the Sex Pistols) in my latest blog entry for the Wanderlust Festival.
Thank you for the love and support. We are deeply grateful that you listen to our music, and support us as we endeavor to create beauty in the world.
Steve Gold

"You've got to get your groove, boy." is what stuck with me the most from my time spent with music legend Malcom McLaren. I write about this experience in my latest entry for the Wanderlust Festival Blog.

Urban Roots featuring our music in its soundtrack, is a timely, moving and inspiring film that speaks to a nation grappling with collapsed industrial towns and the need to forge a sustainable and prosperous future. How Does Music Move You? - February 23, 2011
|
Dear Friends,
If you are reading this, then we know that music moves you in ways that words may fail to describe. Personally, we are moved by the joy and healing our listeners experience upon hearing our music. Recently, one of our students in St. Louis, MO wrote to Steve expressing how our music moves her. We were so touched by her deeply felt expression that we wanted to share it with you. "Dear Steve, Your Mantra for Manifestation workshop was the most intensely beautiful time that I’ve ever experienced in yoga. I have never felt so high on music; I still feel the vibrations throughout my body. From the first time when I heard your music, it has deeply touched my heart and every cell of my body. Your music moves me to tears as I feel deep healing, joy and gratitude. Namaste, KNC"
We invite you to submit your answer to our BIG question: How Does Music Move You? We want to hear about your experience! Plus, you could win a $200 Prana gift card and more great prizes, such as a Shiva Rea DVD and CD compilation, and our music collection including our upcoming release... Contest ends March 3rd at 2PM.

Free Music + San Diego, LA, St Louis, Seattle, & Mexico events! - December 2, 2010
Hi Friends!
Anne-Émilie and I are sending you warm wishes from San Diego where the sunsets have been stellar lately. While I am writing our chimes are ringing with the strong winds, and reminding me that winter is here. And as the days grow shorter it’s an ideal time to shine our heart lights on in the world. Sometimes it’s challenging to keep the heart light burning brightly. My method is simple. I sing to shine. Of course, singing is connecting to breath, and sound vibration. These are the primary creative forces in the universe. Let’s all sing and shine on!
My Maestro, David Kyle once said, "retreat only in order to advance!" With this in mind I invite you to join Chanel Luck, Rebecca Pacheco, and I for a week of yoga and kirtan, bodywork and gourmet meals in Baja, Mexico!
Speaking of my teacher The Maestro. I’ve been recently doing more of what he strongly suggested I do! I have been teaching voice lessons to yoga teachers that are interested in feeling more confidence in leading chants, and mantras in classes. I am currently offering group and private lessons in Southern California, or we can connect with Skype. Please contact me if you are interested in exploring ways to express your voice more freely through sound, breath, and intention.
We are still working on our new album. While most of the recording is finished, we continue to mix and fine tune the music. You can check out what we have been up to by watching this video of a live recording session in LA! I promised to many of you who signed our mailing list a free download from our new album by the end of the year. The creative process is taking us on a wild and unexpected journey, so in the meantime and as a thank you for supporting our music, I would like to offer you a free copy of Let Your Heart Be Known EP + Bonus Track! There is a limited number of free downloads, and they'll be available only until our next San Diego area gig on December 11 at Ocean Beach Namaste Yoga Center. So go get yours!
By the way, I am pleased to let you know that our music is featured on Eoin Finn's new DVD set The Blissology Project, which goes on pre-sale on December 8. Check out excerpts on the site above or here. We are also featured on prAna's new YouTube video with Shiva Rea!
In gratitude and shining light,
Steve Gold

California Bhakti + Help For The Gulf - July 5, 2010
California is bursting with events and festivals this Summer, and they are just around the corner! We hope to have the pleasure of singing with you there. See below for all the details about yoga and music in San Diego, Squaw Valley and Joshua Tree.
Yes, we have been enjoying the taste of California Summer and frolicking in the Pacific Ocean waves. However, we cannot help but feel deeply saddened by the recent events in the Gulf of Mexico. As we all know, the Gulf of Mexico has been devastated by the BP oil eruption. This catastrophe has impacted all of the living creatures of the area, and there is no good ending in sight.
We want to assist with efforts that bring awareness to this disaster, and have decided to give anyone that is producing a non-commercial video about this crisis a free license to use our recording of the song So Much Magnificence. If you or someone you know is interested in this offer, please contact us. In addition to this, we are putting our album So Much Magnificence on sale for $9.99 at CDBaby.com until August 31, and we will donate 10% of all sales revenue to The Surfrider Foundation to support their efforts in protecting the environment.
Here is a recent video that documents the impact of the spill on dolphins, whales, and birds in the area. Let's hold these beautiful beings in our hearts.

Unite for Haiti! - January 21, 2010
The earthquake and its aftermath in Haiti have touched all of our hearts. Many people have already contributed to the relief efforts, and we want to do more to help the victims of the horrible tragedy. By selling our music on CD Baby, we are helping raise funds for those affected by the disaster. Starting on Monday, January 25th and continuing on for two weeks, CD Baby will donate $1 from every CD sale through their website, and $1 from every download sale over $8.99 from their site. The funds will go to the American Red Cross and to Mercy Corps, a Portland-based relief organization with a large presence in Haiti.
We have already contributed as individuals, and we want to do even more to help. So we pledge to match every CD Baby’s donation of $1 for each of our CD or download sales. We also urge you to make your own direct donation: text “Haiti” to 90999 and a $10 donation will be charged to your phone bill or go to HopeForHaitiNow.org. Let's make a difference together.

A Magnificent End of the Year! - December 4, 2009
Dear Friends,
What an extraordinary year it has been! Yes, it’s been one year already since we left our home in the Emerald City. Although we still miss our community in Seattle, we are grateful to have cultivated new friendships throughout the many beautiful places we’ve visited. Destinations were many, and it’s fun to muse over all our trips, plane rides, and multiple events at which we sang. We traveled to Bali (were we filmed a live video of So Much Magnificence) for a month and a half, drove the West coast in its near entirety three times, headed East to Montreal and New York City, West to Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona, spent long weekends in the Bay Area and Santa Monica, and finally landed in our new coastal home in the San Diego area. Overall we sang in more than 20 cities, for more than 3000 people, during more than 100 events! Wow! We want to thank all of our ever so kind and generous friends, our very own constellation of *Lucky Stars*, who have hosted us in their homes.

Unofficially, that was our “So Much Magnificence” Tour. And officially, we are closing the tour with a special promo – warning….unblushing display of promotion here! - We want every one to hear the sound of our musical waves. This season, please consider gifting your friends and family a copy of our CD. If you order more than one album this month through CD Baby, you’ll get a HUGE 30% off. It’s like getting your gifts at a wholesale price. Thank you for supporting us in spreading Magnificence!
Now officially, we are announcing our 2010 Let Your Heart Be Known Tour! We are working out dates with studios in the Northwest, the East Coast, the Bay Area, and Europe. As soon as dates are confirmed, they are added to our online Show Schedule. Let us know if you are a yoga teacher or studio owner, and if you would be interested in hosting and promoting us in your area.
So you know that we have a great two-song EP called Let Your Heart Be Known, after which our 2010 Tour is named. But you may not know that we are working on many more songs for a NEW ALBUM! We don’t have the title of the new album quite yet, but we are ecstatic because it is a collaboration with producer extraordinaire Ben Leinbach (Grammy nominated production for Jai Uttal, and Deva Premal and Miten). One of the songs that he is already producing for us puts to music a duo of mantras from India:
Om shrim shriyei namaha
Sat patim dehi parameshwara
The men sing out “Salutations to the divine creative energy. Please bring more feminine energy into my life,” and women respond in harmony “Please give me a man of truth who embodies the perfect masculine qualities.” We trust that you’ll know to adapt them to your personal gender preferences. Deva Premal who taught us the mantras, warned us jokingly that there is no remedy! This chant is dear to both our hearts. We met while we were singing it! In fact (and thank you, Ben) the first mix of the song was delivered to us on the anniversary date of our first acquaintance, six years ago! Now, isn’t that Divine timing!?
We want to continue communicating all these great updates to you, and want to keep it relevant to where you live. So, please add wave@somuchmagnificence.com to your address book, as this is the new email address from which you will be receiving our updates. You can change your information or unsubscribe at any time by using the link at the bottom of the email.
We want to thank all of you for being part of our supportive and creative community.
May your Holiday Season be filled with Joy and Peace,

So Much Magnificence in the Fall - November 2, 2009
At last! We’ve landed in our Solana beach shack near San Diego after 10 months on the road! This time of year, the ocean water temperature is an acceptable 63 degrees, and when I’m not working you can find me in the water. The surfing sessions were brief though, and home making was cut short… we barely had enough time to unpack our worldly goods before we left for 12 days of performance and recording. If you’ve been following us on Facebook lately, then you know that we have been riding wave after wave of heart opening connection through music and yoga.
Holy wow!!! The month of October felt like it was a peak time for Anne-Émilie and I. And we know in our hearts that this is only the beginning! Here are some of the highlights of the past month that I’d love to share with you...
Did you know that "So Much Magnificence" was mentioned in the October issue of the Yoga Journal?! Thanks to Lisa Black who included our anthem in her playlist! Plus...our music is now also featured on the newly released DVD, Yoga for the Seasons – Fall Vinyasa. A beautiful offering of Hatha Yoga sequences and Ayurveda taught by Melina Meza.
Early October, we performed two concerts in San Diego. The first was at Sujantra McKeever's beautiful studio, Pilgrimage Yoga. Sujantra is a great host and kept the beat for us too on the tablas! Our friend Harry Ammonds took some cool pictures that you can see here. The following concert was at a sweet spot in La Jolla called Embody Yoga. Directors Rachel and Diana packed the place with so many friends and fans for a night to remember! Again, thanks to Harry, we have some fabulous photos of the evening. By the way, you can sign up for our Our Show Schedule RSS feed and that way, stay up to date on our upcoming performences.
We joined Suzanne Sterling for an amazing kirtan at the Radiance Festival. This two-day workshop and concert was hosted by our friend Heather Keely from Bodacious Living Yoga at a beautiful home that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. The spacious yard was transformed into an outdoor amphitheater under the stars and enhanced by a laser show. We chanted our hearts open while brightly lit hula hoops revolved in a dance of spinning lights. See some photos of this amazing event here.
Radiance Festival with Suzanne Sterling, Josh Brill on guitar, Rebecca Kleinmann playing flute, and Matthew Hufschmidt on drums
Shortly after, we left for the Bay Area where we opened the 11th anniversary party at Being Yoga with a beautiful community chanting circle. We continued our tour of the Bay and sang for our friends at Bernal Yoga with Debbie Steingesser, The Yoga Garden with Janice Gates and at 7th Heaven with Charu Rachlis. Super sweet vibes in these classes!
Our next stop was at the recording studio of producer Ben Leinbach in Marin. We recorded vocal tracks for a new and soon to be released album. One can sing this mantra to attract their soul mate... Sounds like a joke, but the truth is that Anne-Émilie and I met within minutes of chanting it at our friend Deva Premal’s workshop!!! See Anne-Émilie warming up, and hear a clip of the new song on YouTube. After a productive day in the studio we joined Ben for Donna De Lory’s groovin’ concert in Berkeley. Donna and her band lay down tight dance riffs, and we really enjoyed her freedom drenched angelic voice!
After our recording session, in the garden with Ben Leinbach, Marin County, CA
Finally, we closed the month in Los Angeles: where our angels are always singing. Shiva Rea hosted a concert for us like nothing we’ve ever done before, and nothing like Exhale Center for Sacred Movement had hosted before. She called it Soul Rising: Tantric Blues Therapy for Changin’ Times. With a smokin’ band of Blues Brothers (Niko Veliskakis, Matt Pszonak, Momo Loudiyi and Philippo Franchini) we led the attendants into a deep journey from the roots of their souls to the radiance of their hearts and spirits. Enjoy this video of the evening on which I am singing "How Long," the opening song for the night:
See more videos on our YouTube Channel!
Shiva than invited us to her Monday evening public class. If you’ve ever been to Shiva’s classes at Exhale in Venice then you know what a force of nature she is!!! She had the class rocking to U2 before we played "Spirit I Am" live and then finished the class with our remix of "Let Your Heart Be Known" ~ so wonderful ~ we love Shiva!!!
Our dear friend and teacher Saul David Raye featured us in his Sunday morning yoga class at Exhale. ~ With Matt and Momo supporting our voices we played several songs from our album, So Much Magnificence. It is so powerful to have over a hundred yogis singing our songs with us during their yoga practice. The vibrations in the room must radiate the joy out into the streets!

Singing at Exhale Center for Sacred Movement, Venice, in Saul David Raye's Sunday morning class
The abundance of community, connection, sharing the love and fellowship of mutual adoration and admiration is endless… such are the blessings of living in the flow!!! We thank you for reading, and for your continuous support.
All Blessings All Ways to you...See you in the waves~~~~
Steve
